David lied to the priests about his visit, pretended to mad, was given food and Goliath’s spear while Doeg watched. Saul is furious that his men were covering for David, thus Doeg maliciously and deceitfully reports what he had witnessed.
In response Saul orders his guards and Doeg to murder priests though one of the sons of Ahimelech escape and narrates to David what had happened. David takes responsibility and writes his Psalm.
